1. Who we are
povPR is a news-literacy tool that maps how outlets in Puerto Rico cover the same story. It is operated by the operator of povPR. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, contact us at founders@povpr.news.
2. What povPR does
povPR is a free, ad-supported website. It gathers publicly available news articles from Puerto Rico outlets, groups the ones that cover the same story, and adds context about each source. You can browse the site without creating an account, logging in, or paying.
3. Information we collect
What we do NOT collect
- No accounts, usernames, or passwords.
- No payment or financial information.
- No contact lists, address books, or phone contacts.
- No precise (GPS-level) location data.
- No special-category data (health, biometrics, religion, and the like). Please do not send us any.
Usage and analytics data
When you visit, we collect limited, aggregate usage information to understand how the site is used and to keep it running: pages viewed, referring page, approximate (country/region-level) location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and anonymized interaction events such as which outlet links are clicked. We use privacy-focused analytics that do not build advertising profiles of you, and we do not use this data to identify you personally.
Advertising data
When advertising is enabled, we use Google AdSense to display ads. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads. Depending on your location and consent choices, this may involve personalized advertising. See the Cookies section for how to opt out.
Server logs
Our hosting provider automatically records standard server logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent) for security, abuse prevention, and debugging.
News content we process
povPR ingests and analyzes publicly available news articles published by third-party outlets. This is not your personal information; it is public content used to power the coverage map.
4. How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the website.
- Measure aggregate usage and performance.
- Display advertising that helps keep the service free.
- Protect against abuse, fraud, and security threats.
- Comply with legal obligations.
AI and model training. We use automated language models to summarize and compare third-party news articles. We do not train, fine-tune, or improve AI models using our visitors’ personal information. Where we use third-party model providers through their APIs, those providers state that data sent through their APIs is not used to train their models.
Legal bases (GDPR). We rely on our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) to run and secure the site and measure aggregate usage; on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) for non-essential cookies and personalized advertising where required; and on legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) where the law requires processing.
6. Third-party processors
We rely on a small number of service providers. Each processes data only as needed to provide their service.
| Provider | Purpose | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel | Hosting and analytics | vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy |
| Supabase | Database and backend storage | supabase.com/privacy |
| Google AdSense | Advertising (when enabled) | policies.google.com/privacy |
| AI model provider(s) | Automated summarization and coverage analysis of public news content | Per provider terms (API, no training) |
7. Data retention
- Analytics aggregates: retained in aggregate/anonymized form for up to 14 months.
- Server access logs: retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging, then deleted or anonymized.
- Advertising cookies: controlled by Google per the durations in the cookie table.
- News content: public article metadata and excerpts are retained to power the coverage map; full extracted text is kept private and not republished.
8. Your rights
Because we do not maintain user accounts, we hold very little information that can identify you. Subject to applicable law, you have the rights below. To exercise them, email founders@povpr.news. We respond within 30 days (extendable where the law allows) and do not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
EEA/UK (GDPR)
You may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, or portability of your personal data, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may withdraw consent at any time and lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
California (CCPA/CPRA)
You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell your personal information for money. The use of advertising cookies may be considered “sharing” under the CCPA; you can opt out via the Google Ad Settings, by enabling Global Privacy Control in your browser, or by blocking third-party cookies. You may use an authorized agent to submit requests.
9. International transfers
We and our providers operate primarily in the United States. If you access povPRfrom outside the U.S., your information may be processed in the U.S. and other countries. Where required for transfers of personal data out of the EEA/UK, we and our processors rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
10. Children
povPR is a general-audience news tool and is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
We serve the site over HTTPS/TLS and rely on reputable providers that encrypt data in transit and at rest. Because we do not have accounts, there are no passwords or credentials to be leaked. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect information and will notify affected users and regulators of a breach where the law requires.
12. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date. Please review it periodically.
13. Contact
Questions or requests? Email founders@povpr.news. We aim to respond within 30 days.
14. Regional supplements
EEA/UK supplement
The data controller is the operator of povPR. Our legal bases are described in Section 4. You have the rights in Articles 15–22 GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. International transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.
California supplement
In the preceding 12 months we may have collected the following CCPA categories: identifiers (IP address), internet/network activity (pages viewed, interactions), and coarse geolocation (country/region). We disclose this information to our analytics and advertising providers for the business purposes described above. We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may amend this Privacy Policy at our sole discretion at any time. If we do, we will post the changes to this page, and will indicate the date the changes go into effect. We encourage you to review our Privacy Policy to stay informed. If we make changes that materially affect your privacy rights, we will notify you by prominent posting on the Website and/or via email.
